How the Candle Jar Fill Calculator Works

The calculator first converts your jar capacity to milliliters, applies your target fill percentage, then converts that usable volume to wax weight using the density factor you entered.

Usable Volume = Jar Capacity × Fill Percentage
Wax Weight = Usable Volume × Wax Density
Fragrance Oil = Wax Weight × Fragrance Load

Why Fluid Ounces and Wax Ounces Are Different

Fluid ounces measure volume. Ounces used for candle wax usually describe weight. Because wax density is different from water density, an 8 fl oz jar should not automatically be treated as requiring 8 oz of wax.

Worked Example

For an 8 fl oz jar filled to 90%, using a density factor of 0.90 g/ml and an 8% fragrance load, the calculator estimates the wax weight first and then adds fragrance based on wax weight. Multiply those per-jar results by your batch quantity for total materials.

How Much Headspace Should I Leave?

The target fill percentage lets you leave space below the rim. For example, 90% uses 90% of the jar's volume. Your actual fill line should be based on the vessel design, wick setup, lid clearance and your own production testing.

How much wax do I need for an 8 oz candle jar?

That depends on whether 8 oz refers to fluid capacity or tested wax weight. If it is fluid capacity, convert the usable volume to wax weight using the wax density rather than assuming 8 fluid ounces equals 8 ounces of wax.

Can I use milliliters instead of fluid ounces?

Yes. Select milliliters and the calculator will use the same density-based method.

Why is wax density editable?

Different waxes and blends can have different densities. The default is a practical planning assumption, but your tested wax value is better when available.

Does fragrance load change how much fits in the jar?
