Wax & Fragrance Calculator

Enter the actual fill weight for one finished candle, choose a unit, then set your batch size and fragrance load.

Use weight to the intended fill line, not the jar's fluid-ounce label.

Important: this calculator treats fragrance load as a percentage of wax weight. Supplier instructions can differ, so use the convention specified for your wax and fragrance system.

How the Candle Wax Calculator Works

Start with the actual wax fill weight for one candle. Multiply that by the number of candles, add a small production allowance if needed, then calculate fragrance oil as a percentage of the wax you plan to prepare. This makes the tool useful for a single test candle as well as larger batches.

Base wax = Fill weight per candle × Number of candles
Wax to prepare = Base wax × (1 + Extra allowance ÷ 100)
Fragrance oil = Wax to prepare × (Fragrance load ÷ 100)

Example: How Much Wax Do I Need for 12 Candles?

Suppose each candle has an 8 oz wax fill weight, you are making 12 candles, your fragrance load is 8%, and you allow 3% extra wax for transfer loss.

Base wax: 8 × 12 = 96 oz
Wax to prepare: 96 × 1.03 = 98.88 oz
Fragrance oil: 98.88 × 0.08 = 7.91 oz
Estimated batch weight: 106.79 oz

These are planning quantities. Your actual process can require adjustments based on vessel fill line, wax system and production loss.

Wax Weight vs. Container Volume

A jar labeled 8 fl oz does not automatically require 8 oz of wax by weight. Fluid ounces measure volume, while ounces on a scale measure weight. For reliable batch planning, determine the actual wax weight at your intended fill line. If you only know the vessel's liquid capacity, start with the Candle Jar Fill Calculator.

How Much Extra Wax Should You Make?

A small allowance can help cover wax left in the pouring pitcher or lost during transfers. The right percentage depends on your equipment and process. Track your real production loss over several batches and replace the default with a number that reflects your workflow rather than automatically adding a large buffer.

Candle Wax Calculator FAQ

How much wax do I need for one candle?

Use the actual wax weight required to reach your intended fill line. If you already know that weight, enter it with a candle count of one. If you only know jar volume, estimate the fill weight first with the jar fill calculator.

How do I calculate wax for multiple candles?

Multiply the fill weight for one candle by the number of candles. You can then add a small extra allowance for normal production loss.

Does fragrance oil count toward total batch weight?

Yes. In this calculator, fragrance oil is calculated separately from wax and then added to show an estimated combined batch weight.

Should candle wax be measured by weight or volume?

Use weight for recipe and batch calculations. Vessel capacity is a volume measurement and should not be treated as the same number of ounces of wax by weight.

Can I calculate candle wax in grams?

Yes. Select grams and enter your fill weight in grams. The calculator keeps the results in the same unit.

Is fragrance load based on wax weight?

This tool uses fragrance oil as a percentage of wax weight. Always check your wax and fragrance supplier instructions because terminology and recommended limits can vary.
